Use your own camera
A camera you already own can send still images into a Builder.Cam project. It stays on your network and pushes each photo to an address we prepare. We do not open a connection into your site.
What the camera needs
The camera needs an internet connection through site Wi-Fi, a wired network, or its own connection.
After you order, we send an HTTPS address and a secret key. You enter both on the camera once. Each still then goes to that address with the key and shows up in the project like a photo from an Enlapser camera.
Many current Axis, Hikvision, Hanwha, and Dahua models have this HTTPS image upload. On Axis, the action is “Send images through HTTPS”, and the key goes in as a parameter.
Send us the camera model and the system you want to connect.
In some cases we can customize an app that runs on the camera. We can also find a secure way to connect through an older recorder, a site VPN, or FTP.
Stay within the photo interval
Set the camera to the interval your plan allows, or to a slower one. We store photos at the plan interval, so sending more often does not add any. Extra uploads are throttled, which can delay the stills that count. If the camera keeps sending much more often, uploads above the limit are dropped.
Video over RTSP
RTSP support for video is coming. Until then, own-camera projects are still images, and a camera that only offers a live RTSP stream cannot connect.
Common questions
Can any IP camera be used?
The standard way is HTTPS with a key, which many current Axis, Hikvision, Hanwha, and Dahua models support. A camera that only offers a live RTSP stream cannot connect yet.
When do we receive the upload address?
After the order. We set up the project and send the HTTPS address and the key, and you enter both on the camera.
What if our setup is different?
Send us the camera model and the system you want to connect. In some cases we can customize an app that runs on the camera. We can also find a secure way to connect through an older recorder, a site VPN, or FTP.
Does this include live video?
Not yet. Own-camera projects are still images. RTSP support for video is coming.
Will every Builder.Cam feature work?
The images the camera sends are stored and shown in the project. Some features are built for an Enlapser 5th-generation IoT camera, and we cannot guarantee those on another camera.
Can a Raspberry Pi, or something similar, be used?
Yes. Every Enlapser camera runs on a Raspberry Pi. Contact support and we will set up a secure way for your device to send images.
Ready to use your camera?
Turn on “Use own camera” in pricing. The monthly credit applies per camera. If you are unsure whether a model can push stills, send us the model name with the offer request.
